What ARE shandy pockets?
The name comes from the phrase 'Champagne tastes and shandy pockets'. Travel journalism often gives working travel writers (and we don't mean the celebrities in your weekend supplements) a window into lifestyles we could never actually afford. It just seemed to fit.
Who are we?
Technically I'm an award-winning journalist, but given that I won that award in 2005, it doesn't really cut much mustard round the dinner table these days, even when I produce the award from my bag and place it down in front of everyone's astonished faces. Oh, well. The kudos was good while it lasted. I am, however, a working professional travel journalist. I have been published in the UK, Ireland, the US, Israel and international air space. I have reported from all seven continents in 15 years. Boy, that went fast. I've written travel guides for well-known publishers, features for national newspapers and magazines, and copy for international hotel chains and tourist boards. I'm always looking to work with travel brands, tourist bureaus and destinations, so don't hesitate to contact me if you have any ideas.
