FAQs
Can I write for Shandy Pockets?
We are always looking for good writers. To save us all some time, here’s what we DON’T want:
Round-ups, top 10 lists, destination guides from a disembodied author, hotel reviews that are essentially just a list of the facilities, anything with the phrases “hidden gem” or “city of contrasts”, or “pristine sands and azure ocean” for that matter. Pristine ocean and azure sands? OK, we can talk.
Here’s what we DO want: We’re trying to reclaim travel as a personal experience. Tell us a story. Be inventive. Have you seen how much factual travel copy there is out there? We don’t need to add to it. Let’s meet some actual people at your destination, be it the mayor or the lady selling flowers on the street corner. Where did you go by mistake? Did you get mugged or fall in love? Give us engaging hotel and restaurant reviews. Tell us about that creepy guy in the lobby. Tell us the joke the concierge told you. What other job did your waiter have? If I want to know how many infinity pools the resort has, I can look it up. Tell us who’s sat on the lounger next to you.
Interviews. We love interviews. Talk to the hotel valet as well as the GM. What’s it like to be a croupier in Vegas or as an assistant on a kibbutz? I for one would love to know. Again, stories and people. We don’t need you to be Hemingway, but we’re not going to publish anything that reads like a brochure. There are lots of other places for that, many of them really useful. But we’re trying to be different. Talk to us. Help us be entertaining. We're waiting for your email.
We are a destination/travel brand/PR company. Can we work with you?
Absolutely. Talk to us. You can email us any time.
Would you like to come on this press trip/attend this conference?
Probably. Invite us and let's see.
Do you have advertising on the site?
We are always happy to discuss advertising options. Again, email us.
Will you write a guest post for my blog?
Ummmmmm....probably not, but it's worth a try. Guess what? Email us.
